P-096 - 1963 Jeweled Presidential Gown
This elaborately layered gown is inspired by a famous pink dress worn by Jacqueline Kennedy at the opening of the Mona Lisa exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D. C. on June 3, 1963. Her form fitting dress had an elegant train and double layered skirt for a distinctive old fashioned silhouette borrowed from the Edwardian Era. Jackie's dress is said to have been influenced by gowns created for Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady". Our layered pink gown features a broad jeweled band bordering the hem of both skirts. We developed another new technique to create the tiny beaded floral motif used in the border. Fifty tiny beaded appliqués are strewn over the remainder of the gown. Seven different colors, sizes and shapes of beads are used to create the jeweled embellishments. Glamorous over the elbow gloves are created using a quick Paradise "tissue and paint" technique. A teenie rhinestone encrusted purse and dangle earrings complete the effect. The doll's hair is realistically teased and pulled back in a distinctive bouffant "Jackie" style.
