Martha Washington is best remembered for her mob caps and shawls. As one of the New World’s wealthiest women she loved to wear rare velvets, satins, brocades and silks. This classic overskirt shimmers with a irregular layer of old rose sequins for the look of brocade. The black sequined underskirt features a swath of rusched black seed beads at the front. Her famous shawl is a tiny piece of stretch net bordered in delicate white pearls. Her mob cap is made of the same net adorned with tiny white bows. This beautiful American icon makes a comforting display in any home.
